Develop Safety Applications Efficiently with the Safety PLC EC
Our certified FIO Safety PLC EC meets the highest safety standards and delivers maximum reliability for safety-critical applications. With its FPU and FSoE frame, the controller is especially well-suited for use in motion control, robotics, and AGVs.
With the optionally available ENI Studio tool, the FIO Safety PLC EC can be quickly integrated into any application, reducing development effort for customers.
Modern machinery must offer a high level of functional safety. With our decentralized Safety PLC EC, machine builders can easily meet these requirements: the controller monitors light curtains and safety zones, is TÜV-certified, and complies with strict international standards (IEC 61508 SIL3 / DIN EN ISO 13849 PLe). Since the Safety PLC EC provides numerous PLCopen-certified safety function blocks, the effort required for development, verification, and approval of safety applications is significantly reduced. Its function blocks include, among others, emergency stop, two-hand control, and muting.
The Safety PLC EC is programmed and configured with the free CODESYS Development System (from version 3.5.19.6). Data transmission takes place via EtherCAT/FSoE. Using the integrated CODESYS Safety Editor, users can also create their own safety programs and function blocks—enabling safe control and monitoring of even complex FSoE slaves. Complex calculations (e.g., kinematic models) can also be stored directly in the Safety PLC.
The cyclic exchange of safety-related data between the Safety PLC EC and the application takes place via freely definable exchange variables. For optimal integration of the controller into proprietary EtherCAT master systems of AGV and robotics applications, our optional ENI Studio analysis and configuration tool is available. ENI Studio identifies safe data within the EtherCAT frame for the customer’s EtherCAT master, ensuring seamless integration of the Safety PLC EC into EtherCAT controllers. In addition, the tool allows for flexible use of the Safety PLC EC with different EtherCAT masters.

“We specifically developed ENI Studio for precise localization and handling of safety data within the EtherCAT frame.”
says Nico Heinrich, Product Manager Control Technology at Kendrion. The software provides the controller with all the information contained in the ENI file to correctly initialize all participants, including safety function blocks. This creates a complete process image that includes both standard and safety data.
