Efficient motion controllers for small and medium outputs
With the FIO Drive Control and FIO Stepper Control modules, Kendrion offers compact drive controllers for small and medium power range. The drive controllers can be easily integrated into the modular FIO systems - either as a decentralized I/O system with an EtherCAT bus coupler or as a stand-alone drive controller with a CODESYS PLC FIO Controller. The FIO Drive and Motion Modules offer efficient and precise motion control in your machine. Depending on the application and type of motor, we provide the right motion solution.
The compact drive controller FIO Drive Control Module can be used universally for the operation of stepper motors and brushless DC motors (BLDC motors) with up to 15 A peak current.
Especially when using stepper motors, magnetic field-oriented vector control with sinusoidal commutation ensures high dynamics, high efficiency, very smooth running, and low running noise. In this servo mode, step errors are corrected during travel, and load angle errors are compensated within a full step. By constantly monitoring the motor current, the controller only supplies as much current as necessary, thus saving energy.
The cost-optimized 3-axis stepper module is ideal for simple stepper motor applications - such as format adjustments or flap control. Here, 3 axes can be optimally positioned in the smallest installation space.
Motion control - now even easier with our FIO I/O modules
Thanks to the PLC Open modules, commissioning is a simple matter. You can have the system up and running in just 5 minutes, saving you time and resources. The intuitive operation enables quick integration into your application.

NEW: Kuhnke FIO Stepper Control
The compact CODESYS PLC with motion and analog I/O
The new Kuhnke FIO stepper control module is ideal for controlling applications with small stepper motors (1.8 Aeff) and offers three independent axis interfaces. Two outputs for motor phases A and B, a brake output, an input for reference switches, 2 end position inputs and the motor supply in the range from 12 to 48 V DC are available for each motor.
The motion module also offers the configuration of three operating modes according to CAN over EtherCAT (CoE)/DS402 (positioning mode (absolute/relative) PP; speed mode PV; reference mode HM). The stepper control module offers the option of controlling x-y-z portals with just one module and is therefore the price-optimized alternative to the function-optimized FIO drive control module.
Like all our I/O systems, the FIO Stepper Control can be expanded with Kuhnke FIO modules. Thanks to its compact design, it is suitable for quick installation via top-hat rail mounting with a central front connector.
Kuhnke FIO Drive Control
The universal drive controller
The Kuhnke FIO Drive Control Module impresses when controlling 2-phase stepper motors and brushless DC motors thanks to its high functionality and compact design. It has integrated outputs for the motor and brake as well as digital inputs for the incremental encoder, Hall encoder and 5 DI.
For optimum control, the module offers interpolation (cyclic synchronous position mode), positioning mode and torque control in addition to reference runs in accordance with DSP402.
The modular drive controller also offers the following advantages:
- high dynamics
- high efficiency
- high energy efficiency
- UL approval for the USA and Canada (cULus)
