A journey back in time
My story began in 2017 when I joined Kendrion as a vacation temp, unsure about my professional path. What started as a temporary position evolved into an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk. During these three years, I gained insight into various departments and found my calling in marketing. After my apprenticeship, I officially stepped into the role of a Marketing Assistant and eventually became a Marketing Manager with responsibilities in online marketing at Kendrion Industrial Brakes.
Immersing in Amsterdam's charm
My story took an exciting turn when I was presented with the opportunity to travel to the Headquarter of Kendrion in Amsterdam. Having been in the company since 2017, I was ready for a new challenge and eager to experience the company's headquarters in another country. The chance to support the Global Communications Manager in Amsterdam led to a three-month stay in the beautiful Dutch capital.
As an international traveler for the first time, I was initially overwhelmed by Amsterdam's size and intricate canal system. However, I soon adapted and embraced the city's charm, exploring its various neighborhoods and the surrounding cities. I particularly enjoyed cycling around Amsterdam, making the most of the city's bicycle-friendly infrastructure.
Integrating into the Kendrion Team Amsterdam
While Germany and the Netherlands share some similarities, I noticed some distinct cultural differences. Dutch people are known for their open and easy-going nature, which I experienced firsthand in the pleasant and focused atmosphere of the office. Despite the language barrier, I found it easy to communicate with my colleagues in English, thanks to the country's diverse and multicultural environment.
The team at Kendrion's Amsterdam headquarters may be smaller than the one in Villingen, but I quickly found a sense of belonging within the close-knit group. The lunch breaks were particularly enjoyable, providing an opportunity to connect on personal levels with my new colleagues.
Career and personal development
During my time in Amsterdam, I was given the responsibility of working on various global communication projects. This new area of responsibility expanded my skillset, allowing me to contribute to cross-departmental tasks, SEO strategies, and website improvements. The experience helped me develop a broader understanding of the company on a global level.
Beyond my professional growth, my journey to Amsterdam offered valuable personal lessons. I learned to trust myself more, be open to new experiences, and adapt to different environments. My experience abroad served as a stepping stone for future endeavors, encouraging continuous personal and professional development.
My journey from a vacation temp to a Marketing Manager at Kendrion and my adventurous experience at the Kendrion Headquarter in Amsterdam exemplify the benefits of embracing opportunities and stepping outside one's comfort zone. As I returned to Villingen with a newfound perspective, I look forward to further developing my skills, pursuing higher education, and cherishing the relationships with friends, and colleagues at Kendrion worldwide.
